Engaging the Public in the Energy Transition

case study

Hydro-Québec

Hydro-Québec wanted access to a flexible platform to build a customer community. The chosen solution had to allow the company to survey both panelists and non-panelists, as well as connect to various third-party systems using a modern API.

Company description

Hydro-Québec is a Quebec government-owned corporation responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Quebec. With its 62 hydroelectric power plants, Hydro-Québec is Canada’s leading electricity generator and one of the world’s largest producers of hydroelectric power. Its grid supplies electricity to more than four million customers in Quebec.

Issues

As part of its energy transition strategy, Hydro-Québec wanted to develop a reliable and flexible tool to establish a citizens’ panel with which the organization could engage on a regular basis.

Results

Using the Brio platform, Hydro-Québec launched The Hydro & Me Panel in 2022, which allows the state-owned utility to consult its customers on various topics related to the energy transition. The Hydro & Me Panel quickly became one of the main sources of information guiding the company’s management in its decision-making. The online community has more than 10,000 active panellists.
